Motor development includes both gross and fine motor skills. From birth, babies begin progressing these skills, which are the building blocks to your baby's ability to explore their environment as they grow. Gross motor skills describe larger muscle movements - like rolling, sitting and standing. Fine motor skills include smaller muscle groups - like grasping and bringing hands together. Babies learn and refine both motor skills along a spectrum, it's not one-size-fits-all; however, there are normative ranges caregivers can refer to, to best track their baby's progress and support baby's growth and learning. This presentation by a pediatric Doctor of Physical Therapy will describe motor development using evidence-based resources. You will learn: 1) what typical development looks like, 2) general tips and strategies to support baby's skill acquisition, and 3) helpful resources for continued learning. Time for questions allowed.
